The Alaska Firearm Bill of Sale will permit an individual to sell a firearm to another individual. The buyer must be at least 18 years of age and have no legal reason to be restricted from owning a firearm. One may acquire a permit to either carry or conceal a firearm in the state of Alaska according to Sec. 18.65.700. of the Alaska Statutes and Regulations Concerning Alaska Concealed Handgun Permits as long as there are no discrepancies with regard to the legality of the purchase and sale. This document must be witnessed and notarized by a state licensed notary public.

Register a Gun or Firearm in Alaska

Firearm Ownership and Registration – No one under the age of 21 is allowed to own a firearm in this state. For those 21 years of age and older, residing in the state of Alaska, there are no permits or registration required to own a firearm that would be used only in the state of Alaska. No concealed weapon permit is required unless the owner plans to travel to another state whereas the gun laws may significantly differ. If you own a firearm and plan to acquire a permit, the length of the permit is 5 years and will require renewal on the birthday of the individual who holds an Alaskan firearm concealed weapon permit. No one who has been convicted of a felony with a firearm is allowed to purchase or possess and will not be provided a permit to carry a firearm, concealed or open.

How To Write

Step 1 – Download the document

  • Begin by entering the date on the top left side of the page in mm/dd/yyyy format

Step 2 – Buyer and Seller Information – Both parties must enter the following information:

  • Full legal name
  • Physical mailing address
  • State

Step 3 – Firearm Description – Provide the following information with regard to the firearm that is being transferred within this document:

  • Caliber
  • Make
  • Model
  • Serial Number (SN)
  • Other – Enter any other information that may be important involving the transfer of the firearm – enter the information into the line provided on the form

Step 4 – Purchase Price – Enter the following into the appropriate lines:

  • Enter the amount in words into the first line ie: Five Hundred Dollars
  • Enter the dollar amount in numbers
  • AND
  • Check one of the following boxes to indicate payment type:
  • Cash
  • Check
  • Money Order
  • Other – Then specify what the other arrangements are in the line provided and check one of the following boxes to indicate the arrangements if applicable
  • Enter the word dollar amount (as down payment)
  • Enter the number dollar amount (as balance due)
  • Date the balance is due in mm/dd/yyyy
  • Provide a promissory note attached to this document
  • OR
  • Enter the word amount (as down payment)
  • Enter the number dollar amount as
  • balance due as stated in the promissory note attached to this Bill of Sale

Step 5 – Firearm Condition – On the line provided:

  • State any defects the firearm may have

Step 6 – Additional Details – If the buyer and seller have any other unstated terms of their agreement but they have not been mentioned in this document, enter them into the line provided on the form. If more space is needed, provide an additional sheet with any remaining information.

Step 7 – Signatures – Before signatures are provided you must retain the services of a notary public. If the sale is being transferred by two owners and/or purchase is being made by two buyers, both parties on both or either side must provide signatures, all parties must be present before a notary:

  • Buyer #1
  • Date of signature
  • Buyer #2 (If any)
  • Date of signature
  • AND
  • Seller #1
  • Date of signature
  • Seller #2 (If any)
  • Date of signature

Step 8 – Witness(es) – You must have at least one witness to the transaction. Your notary may be willing to be your witness and your notary, or you may provide 1 or 2 witnesses of your own:

  • Once the notary is present – all parties must sign the document, buyer(s), seller(s), and witness(es)
  • The notary must complete the remainder of the form and affix their state seal
  • Once complete, make copies for all records and give the original document to the buyers for registration

Step 9 – Buyer and Seller Disclosure – Both parties must complete this section by initialing all lines that apply to each statement as follows:

  • Buyer(s) –
  • Buyer is of legal age to own and operate a firearm
  • Buyer has affirmed that the firearm details below are legible and correct
  • Buyer of not violating any local, State, or Federal laws by accepting the firearm
  • Buyer has not been prohibited from taking possession or owning a firearm legally
  • Buyer acknowledges that no warranty is offered by the seller for the firearm
  • AND
  • Seller(s) –
  • Has verified that the firearm details stated in this bill of sale are correct and the serial number is legible
  • Seller acknowledges they are the legal owner of the firearm
  • The firearm has never been used in a manner of questionable illegality
  • Seller assumes no responsibility after the transfer of ownership
