Register a Gun in Vermont

The state of Vermont is notably one state that has the least restrictive firearm laws in the country. There is no registration or permit necessary to purchase nor is any license required to carry an open or concealed weapon. The only documentation required is that the gun dealers must document all of the guns, new and used, that they sell. The dealer’s records must include the weapon’s make, name, and model, caliber and manufacturer’s serial number.Pertaining to the buyer’s information, it’s also required that the dealer collect, for the record, the buyer’s name, address, occupation, height, weight, age as well as hair and eye color. These records must be kept on file with the state and at the dealer’s location for at least six years and must be made available to the proper authorities immediately upon request.

All stated, one must be over the age of 16 years of age and must meet eligibility requirements. Although the state has very lenient gun laws, they do have requirements to keep firearms out of the hands of minors, criminals or anyone who may be of harm to themselves and/or others

Where to Register – There is no registration of firearms required in the state of Vermont. The only data retained is when a firearm is purchased from a dealer, new or used. If you obtain a firearm privately, there is no registration necessary.

Needed to Register –  Since there are no laws or statutes requiring registration of firearms, there is little need for documentation unless you’re purchasing from a dealer, in which case, you must show identification at the point of sale.
