The Missouri promissory note templates are completed in junction by two parties consisting of a lender and a borrower. Once completed, the agreement helps to motivate the borrower to make timely payments and keep both parties on the same page.


Secured Promissory Note – Has a section on ‘security’, which sets aside an item such as a home, vehicle, or boat that is given to the lender if the borrower cannot recover from a default on the balance.

Unsecured Promissory Note – Does not include security. If the borrower were to enter into default, the lender would not be guaranteed a return on his or her loaned money.

Usury Rate

The maximum rate of interest one can charge is 10% or the market rate, whichever is greater. The market rate is “equal to the monthly index of long term United States government bond yields for the second preceding calendar month prior to the beginning of the calendar quarter plus an additional three percentage points rounded off to the nearest tenth of one percent.” Mo. St. Title XXVI CH. 408.030

How to Write

Step 1 – Download the Missouri note document – Enter the information as follows:

  • Enter the Document’s start date in mm/dd/yyyy format
  • The Borrower’s name –
  • Mailing address
  • AND
  • Lender’ name –
  • Mailing address
  • AND
  • Submit the sum of the principal portion of the agreement
  • The unpaid sum, annual percentage rate

Step 2 – Payments – Enter the following information:

  • The balance of the note that is to be paid in full
  • The amount of all late fees any accrued interest

Installments –Check the selected method of payment (by checking the applicable box) – Provide:

  • The amount that will be payable in full by the date due
  • The amount of the principal of the note
  • Check the box that reflects the preferred payment frequency
  • The required “late payment” fee

Step 3 – Security-

  • Check the box stating the type of the note that will be used
  • If the document requires that the note would be“secured,” enter information regarding the secured property

Step 4 – Titled Sections and Subsections –

  • Interest due in the Event of Default
  • Allocation of Payments
  • Prepayment
  • Acceleration (and 6A.)
  • Attorney’s Fees and Costs
  • Waiver of Presentments
  • Non-Waiver
  • Severability
  • Integration

  • Co-Signer – Submit Co-signer’s name
  • Execution
  • Governing Law – (state of Missouri)

Step 5 – Signatures – Provide signatures before a witness –

  • Lender’s signature
  • Date of the signature – mm/dd/yyyy
  • Print name
  • AND
  • Borrower’s signature
  • Date of signature – mm/dd/yyyy format
  • Print name
  • AND
  • Co-signer’s signature (if required)
  • Date of signature dd/mm/yyyy
  • Printed name
  • AND
  • Witness’ signature (all signatures have been witnessed)
  • Date witness’ signature in mm/dd/yyyy format
